Snapchat is an application for sharing pictures and videos with your friends in a cute and fun way, with some special features we do not find in other similar applications. It is available for iOS (Apple) and Android devices. The main feature that makes Snapchat so unique and appealing is the timed self-destruction of all pictures, videos and messages.
Create a Snapchat Account
Here is what you have to do to create a Snapchat account of your own:
1- Download the Snapchat app
You can get it for free from the App Store (for iOS Apple) or Google Play (for Android).
2- Enter your details
When you open the app, you will need to enter your email address, create a new password and enter your birthday. Ages under thirteen are not allowed to create a Snapchat account.
You need to choose your username carefully, because you will not be able to change it afterwards. This is the name that will be used to find you on Snapchat and that will be listed on your friends’ contacts lists.
You will be asked to enter a verification code. Choose your country, enter your phone number and make sure you are within the coverage area so you can receive the verification code. You can choose to get it via text message or a call, and then wait for a few minutes for the message or call to arrive.
Once you get the code you can enter it and continue to the next step.
The app will use your number to search the contacts list on your device for other Snapchat users. You will have the choice whether or not to allow the app to help other Snapchat users to find you.
You can send friend requests to your friends. Once they accept it, you will be able to exchange pictures and videos with them.
If you want to add a friend who is not in your contacts list, you will have to search for their Snapchat username manually.
Once you’re done setting up your account and adding your friends, you can start sending and receiving photos and videos anytime.
You can add captions and designs to the photo or even draw on it. You can also set the timer on your picture. This determines the length of the time your friends will be able to view your snap – up to 10 seconds.
You can also add your snap – a video, a picture or multiple pictures – to “My Story”; all of your Snapchat friends will be allowed to view your post as many times as they want over a 24 hour period.
You will be able to receive Snapchat messages from your friends. But don’t forget that once you start viewing the picture you received, a timer will start counting down the seconds. Once it gets to zero, you will not be able to view the snap any more. You can take a screenshot of the image while it is still on your screen, and save the image to your gallery. The sender will be notified that you have taken a screenshot.
