Twitter is one of the most popular social media websites around the world. Twitter is used by tons of celebrities and politicians around the world. Everybody knows that a lot of powerful world leaders and presidents have their own Twitter accounts and tweet from time to time. If you don’t believe me, this is one of President Obama’s tweets – 100% real, not Photoshopped.
You are probably excited right now to make your own Twitter account and follow your favorite celebrities (or even the President!), reply to their tweets or retweet them. If you’re not sure how to get started, keep reading this article to learn how to create a Twitter account.
Create a Twitter Account
Making an account on Twitter
Go to the main Twitter website by typing www.twitter.com in the address bar of your web browser, or you can search for Twitter on Google search if you prefer. You will see the welcome/sign up screen:
The Twitter homepage looks pretty cool; its background changes as every few seconds, so your view might be slightly different from my screen. It also shows you the top hash tags on Twitter and who made them.
Just like Facebook, Twitter gives you a form to easily make a new account on its homepage screen. In the box that says “New to Twitter? Sign up” enter your full name, email address and password. As you probably know, when choosing your password you should use a mix of capital letters, lowercase letters, numbers and special characters to get the most security possible. After filling in your data, click “Sign up for Twitter”.
On the next screen, Twitter will check if your email address is valid or not. It will also measure the strength of your password; if all three boxes have are “checked” on the right, then you are ready to go. Just click “Sign up”. (Note: you will see a checkbox that says “Tailor Twitter based on my recent website visits”; this is optional.)
Now, just wait for a moment for Twitter to create the account.
The next step is to give Twitter your phone number. Make sure to choose your country if Twitter doesn’t set it automatically. You can also skip this step by clicking the “Skip” option under the “Next” button.
If you choose to write your phone number, click “Next”.
If you wrote your phone number in the previous step, Twitter will ask you to verify your number by sending you a text message with a verification code; just type the code in the verification box and click “Verify”.
You can also skip this step but Twitter will choose a username for you by itself (I think most people would opt to select one themselves). After choosing your username, click “Next”.
In this next step, Twitter will welcome you with a brief message. Just click “Let’s go!”
After that, Twitter will ask about your interests, offer some people to follow, ask you to add profile picture and give you the option to find friends automatically by searching your email contacts.
Twitter will ask you to confirm your email address before you can access all of its features. Check your email for a message from Twitter, click to confirm your email and start enjoying Twitter!
